Demotivational Pictures: sending feminism backwards in time

August 20, 2009

Seriously, I can’t be the only one who has noticed this, but there are so many demotivational posters where the pictures are just of some “hot chick” and the caption just makes it worse than it already is. Not to mention the fact that most of the time, the girl is either completely naked or wearing nothing but a bikini. More under the break.

Umm, excuse me? Oh, and here’s an example of the type I mentioned in the first paragraph.

Granted, not all demotivators are like this, but the fact that so many of them are is disgusting. Another example is the “Epic boobs” demotivators. Basically, a picture of a girl with large breasts with “Epic boobs” as the title and something else under it. One has a picture of a girl’s face really close to the so-named “Epic boobs” and the caption is something along the lines of “Can turn a straight girl into a lesbian in 0.38 seconds”.

But then I begin to think… why do girls take these pictures of themselves? One has a couple of Asian teenagers making out… another has one preteen-looking girl lying in her bed while another squats over her in a provocative-looking reverse-cowgirl position… (and of course, the title is “Jailbait”). These girls obviously do it because they think it makes them appear more attractive. They know that guys like it, so they take pictures of themselves pulling unnessecarily sexual stunts. After taking such pictures, they probably post them on Myspace or Facebook or this week’s new social networking site, and that’s how it sprea

I’m really not sure what else to say about this. I think, really, most of it speaks for itself. Girls feel the need to post slutty pictures of themselves for attention, guys drool over them and make perverted captions and send them to each other. End of story.

Stumbleupon led me to your blog, and I must say I have thorougly enjoyed your semi-caustic, often witty, and astute observations on the sad shape our society is in.

With respect to this post, I have a comment and another demotivational picture which subjugates women. It is utterly infuriating.

This guy I was hanging out with a while back must have thought this demotivational poster…

…was hilarious, because he had it saved on his computer under “Humor.” We were looking through funny pictures of animals and other silly stuff when this came up in the slideshow. He quickly clicked forward to the next one because I’d told him I was beaten by my ex-boyfriend. He knew it would upset me, but it should upset everybody! Why people can find this funny in any way is just beyond me.

Wow, thank you for the compliment! :)

As for the picture, I don’t think it’s funny either. In fact, I don’t see how people could laugh at that. They shouldn’t. But I suppose that just goes to show you about how sociopathic society’s sense of humor has become…
